TCM have undertaken Japanese knotweed eradication on a number of sites within Wigan’s Economic Development Zone…TCM have more recently been involved in a process of treatment over a longer period of time on the site which was deemed necessary for Japanese knotweed next to watercourses and also for eradication of Giant Hogweed. All chemicals used within the treatment processes, I have been informed, have been fully approved by DEFRA. This was a particular issue on Westwood Park with the proximity of The Site of Biological Interest, thus protecting existing flora and fauna.

All eradication work to-date has been undertaken successfully (as well as on time and to budget) and guarantees for these works issued were appropriate.

Mitigation Design and Implementation

Mitigation Design and Implementation

A protected species survey may conclude that the accommodation of an existing population within the redevelopment site is necessary.

This can be achieved by creating or enhancing areas of existing habitat. If this is not possible, mitigation may include translocation of the population to a receptor site. These works may involve continuous management or habitat creation.

Depending on the species identified, the strategy will need to be robust enough to stand up to scrutinisation by the local planning authority and in some cases Natural England.
