In addition to the on-site survey, a desk study will be undertaken, through which relevant ecological and environmental organisations will be contacted to obtain further information. This could include whether it is a designated site of statutory or non statutory importance, previously identified habitats and records of species of specific interest within or in close proximity to the site. An assessment of the impact on surrounding habitats will also be made.
Extended phase 1 habitats surveys do not include specific species surveys for protected species, although they do direct the recipient about whether further study is appropriate and how it should be undertaken.
The survey will provide either an ‘all clear’ for the site, or a programme of mitigation works can be recommended, priced and planned in a timely fashion in order to prevent delays or unexpected costs.
