TCM produces ecological surveys and assessments for a range of Network Rail electrification renewal and enhancement projects. We are impressed with Sarah’s (our contact at TCM) professionalism on identifying ecological issues by actively understanding our scope of works. She also has excellent knowledge of gathering / analysing in-situ evidence of protective species / invasive vegetation. Her reports help us immensely on addressing biodiversity actions at the early stage of the project lifecycle. Ivan Lee - Design Engineer, Network Rail

Ecology Surveys - Your Obligations

Ecology Surveys - Your Obligations

Following the publication of PPS9, local authorities now place an obligation on the developer to undertake ecological surveys as part of the planning process. This is in addition to any obligations dictated by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

In order to obtain planning permission, the developer should provide information about the likely presence or absence of protected species and any impacts the development could have on them.

Protected species surveys should therefore be carried out in advance of a planning application; without the correct information, the application may be dismissed.
